We've gone through various evening rituals since Fiona was old enough to know how to stall bedtime. At 2, she danced in circles serenaded by her Mozart Music Cube -- one of the most brilliant baby toys ever made. At 3, she commanded Dada to animate her Elmo doll and make him talk in an almost-Elmo but kind of creepy voice while I pretended to be Santa. Geez, that is odd now that I am retelling it. She also liked for us to dance to Music Together's "Train Song" and "Caribbean Amphibian" performed by Jimmy Buffet and Kermit the Frog. Yeah, you heard me.

The biggest development around here is that we've decided to kiss Fiona's nap goodbye. She could still nap mosts days if we pushed it, but she didn't want to and it usually resulted in a not-so-tired girl at bedtime, which resulted in all sorts of shenanigans and various battles of the wills. Not fun. Good news is that since she's not napping anymore she goes to bed fairly easily at 7 pm instead of 8 and we've had some post-7 am wake-ups lately instead of 6. All cause for celebration.
Going to neighbor Julia's house is always a hoot. Fiona usually comes home smelling of perfume, her toenails painted, and a tummy full of dried cranberries. Yesterday, she announced that she was going next door while I pruned some very dead plants in our front yard. When I eventually went to retrieve her, Fiona was busy inspecting Julia's boxes of jewelry and pulling everything out of her makeup bag. Julia helped her to apply blush, eyeliner, and lipstick. When Fiona wandered to the closet, Julia pulled out a few blouses and let Fiona try them on. And before I knew it, we were in the middle of a fashion photo shoot. Here are a few highlights: |
