Rowan's gait is bow-legged: doctor suggested dressing him in shoes with an arch for comfort, and as he gets stronger he'll correct his position.
He still has that pesky herniated bellybutton, but no concern about that until age 3.
Rowan also still has a heart murmur, so we've been referred to a pediatric cardiologist. This sounds scary but I've decided it isn't. The doctor said we have to have it checked out in case Rowan suddenly requires dental work (apparently Jimmy Smits' character on NYPD Blue died of endocarditis because he had a dental procedure done and didn't realize he had a heart condition -- if "Bobby" had had antibiotics before his dentist visit he wouldn't have suffered the heart infection and died. There's some '90s TV trivia for you). I've made an appointment for early March.
Speaking of dentist, the doctor scoffed at Rowan's lousy six teeth, but she did say it looked like top and bottom molars on the left side and another top tooth were about to pop.
Rowan was charming and friendly with the doctor, smiling while she picked him up. She said 18 months is the height of stranger danger; I think Rowan peaked at 15 months. Visiting family upstate earlier this week, he was all smiles, hugs, and blown kisses. He loves waving and saying "Hi" to anyone.
Rowan was furious after his two vaccine shots, turning red and sucking in breath for so long I started to wonder if he was going to scream. But then he did. He cried and yelled with big cartoon tears. After a few minutes it was over and he and Fiona played in the waiting room and I almost had to drag them away.
