It's nice to see her doing her own original artwork. While we've been happy with her school, one downside is that there seems to be a lot of gluing work and not a lot of original creation going on. I think the teacher is emphasizing following directions ("pick up five pre-cut hearts and put them in the upper right quadrant of your kite"), which is useful, but it's nice to loosen the reins sometimes.
After a week of eye drops that would not deter Rowan's "heavy growth" bacterial pink eye, we have found relief with an erythromycin ointment -- yes, eye OINTMENT, lord help us. Nothing like pinning your baby down to squish solids into his eyes -- and Rowan is finally gunk-free. Three more days of treatment, and we should be done. No one is allowed to get pink eye again until they're able to administer their own medicine. My decision is final. Still no crawling, but Rowan is regularly finding himself on his stomach, having reached out from a seated position. And he's starting to show interest in pulling himself up to standing (he's always liked to stand, but now he's slowly realizing that he might be able to do it on his own). Fiona's been drawing pictures of her family at school lately. As far as I'm aware, these are her first forays into drawing actual THINGS, rather than abstract squiggles that she identifies as logs or rainbows after the fact. These are keepers for sure: Daddy has eyebrows; Fiona and Rowan get noses and mouths. I love Rowan's one long blue line of hair. And I wonder how Fiona decided on red hair for herself. Fiona has a light touch with a crayon, so it can be hard to make out what she's drawn. Above, Fiona added a lot of detail to Rowan -- a diaper, toes, a squiggle of hair, eyes and a nose -- and I have arms AND legs, unlike Fiona and Daddy, who are simply circles with legs. She laughs that she accidentally made Daddy's head tilted sideways. It's nice to see her doing her own original artwork. Only two weeks of school left! Camp at the YMCA doesn't start until July, so we'll be looking for ways to keep busy in June. Hopefully by then, the rain will have let up a little and we can spend some time outside.
