Fiona's swimming skills have taken off in a major way. She's been back in private lessons with a different instructor, and they seem to get each other. Apparently, Jojo asks Fiona to try something, Fiona responds that she's too scared, Jojo suggests that she just try it and if she doesn't like it, she doesn't have to do it again. And of course once Fiona tries, she realizes she's capable and bam! New skill acquired. She's not only swimming independently, but she's also learning strokes (side breathing, backstroke), she's jumping into the water, and last week they started seated dives. Who IS this child?! I'm so proud of her. This little fish has come a long way.
After four-plus months, Rowan was looking mighty shaggy, but he was so upset the last time I took him to the salon, I offered him the option of a home haircut. And cookies. He went for it. The haircut is majorly imperfect, but I was able to trim up that pesky point in the back and around his ears, and it's no longer hanging in his eyes. And he didn't cry! Whimpered a little and hated the sensation of little hairs on his neck, kept asking if I was done. I sang "What Makes You Beautiful" while I cut to distract him -- seemed to help. After his bath, I realized there's much more work to be done and suggested to him that we could go to the salon to clean it up. He said, "NOOO! You do it!" So I guess I'll play barber once more. Hope he reads this when he's older and realizes these homemade haircuts were HIS idea.
