Gobble gobble! We celebrated Thanksgiving with Deedee and Granddad. Rowan ate most of a loaf of Deedee's carrot bread. Fiona proudly modeled the Pilgrim and Native American costumes she created at school. Pilgrim hat pictured above, Native American below: Rowan, whom we deprived of a nap, pulled a quilt over himself at 7 pm and fell asleep on the couch. Nothing like a big meal, a busy day, and a PBS nature show to knock a kid out. This week, he graduated to a toddler bed! Potty training has gone so well that it seems unreasonable for us to keep him in his crib -- during nap and at night he sometimes needs to *go* but was trapped. The first night in his new bed went great. The second night, he got up before 2 am for a drink of water and the night went downhill from there. The third night, Fiona generously agreed to let him try her "OK to wake" clock, and he promised not to leave his bed until it turned green in the morning (which, yes, contradicts the whole "let him get up to pee thing," but we really treasure our sleep). Success! Other November highlights: A wedding! Jeff and Jose Carlos asked Fiona if she would serve as flower girl and ring bearer on their big day, and she was thrilled to accept. Swim lessons! This session, Fiona and Rowan are in different classes in the same pool. This fact seems to bolster them both, and gives Mama 30 minutes of free time. Rowan blows bubbles and gets carried around the pool; Fiona swims the width of the pool. She is *this* close to swimming independently. Fiona's next worry: she's doing so well, what happens when she graduates from this class? How hard will the next class be? We're encouraging her to relax and savor her accomplishments, but she is a worrier at heart. Playing! The weather's been crazy nice -- like, in the 60s in November. They revamped a local playground with this enormous spider web, which it didn't take long for Fiona to master. She's been fixated on the monkey bars, too. Art! Here are some of the latest masterpieces. By Fiona: Art by Rowan: Music! We are the proud new owners of Mimi's baby grand. The kids love it. They stop by and plink out a few notes from time to time. Between Brian's guitars and bass, my ukulele, and the piano, we are music-ing like crazy 'round here. Next challenge: where the heck will the Christmas tree go?
