Winter did its darnedest to keep on keepin' on, but Spring is, at last, in the air. We got a few inches of snow yesterday but most of it is already gone thanks to 50-degree temps. And look! This daffodil is always the first to bloom and it already has a bud. A very good sign. So. March. Where did it go? First, I've been working a lot. Copy editing a travel guide and a novel (not mine), training to become a music teacher, and interviewing to do some light work for an auction house that specializes in stringed instruments. It's all good but at times all-consuming. Rowan spent most of yesterday morning glued to the television (he found a Chuggington DVD at the library and fell in love) while I scrambled to finish one project and start another. It'll make more sense come September and he's in school three mornings a week, but for now it's a little kooky. Fiona and Rowan spent four days at Deedee and Granddad's house while Dada and I went on a ski retreat. It was delightful for all (well, I can't speak for the grandparents, but the kids and the parents had fun). Fiona was simultaneously trepidatious and excited. Mostly excited. The coup de gras was when she went to the salon with Deedee to have her hair washed, cut, and curled, and her nails painted. As Fancy Nancy would say, Ooh la la! So now we shift from snowball season to puddle season. Rowan likes both. Below, he's lying down at the playground after having splashed in puddles so much that his face is speckled with dirty water. Heaven! In two-and-a-half weeks, we'll head to Florida where it's 80 degrees, and when we get back to the northeast, Winter will be a thing of the past. Fiona has been digging into her short-sleeve shirts for the past couple of weeks, but soon she won't need a sweater to wear over them. Winter coats will be useless. So long, hats and mittens. Bye-bye, boots. Hello, not taking a bajillion years to get everyone out of the house in the morning. This may be the best part of the year.
