(Listening to the classic rock station -- Fiona's newfound favorite -- in the car)
Fiona: Mom, what are they singing?
Mom: "I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day." What do you think about that?
Fiona: Not good.
Mom: Why?
Fiona: Because you're supposed to sleep!

Fiona: Extinct? Like stinky? Because their bones stink when they're dead?
Fiona, bright and early on Monday morning: I was looking at my (ok to wake) clock and it was yellow so I said, "Hey, I want it to be morning," and then it turned green (which means morning)! I think it is a listening clock!
Rowan has been walking up a storm these last few days. At 15 months, he unexpectedly took 16 solo steps, as documented here (click the purple link). Now, 5 weeks later, walking is quickly overtaking crawling as the preferred mode of mobility. Here's video from this morning.
Rowan's vocabulary is growing, too, though if you don't understand him he gets very upset and starts throwing things in a dramatic fashion. All of his words are one syllable, except for "All done," which, being two words, is two sounds. "Aaaaa daa." He sort of sings it -- an interval of a fourth for you music nerds -- because that's how I say it for some reason. The latest word he's experimenting with is "Airplane," which he pronounces as a short "Aa" sound. He points and looks at the sky as a plane flies by while he makes the noise, so I'm convinced. At bed, Rowan says "night-night" by blowing kisses to Dada and Fiona (he licks his palm while looking at them). He likes to give high fives, clap, and sometimes he'll sign the word "more." He also makes a wonderful "Mm"/yum sound when he spots tasty-looking food. That's one of my favorites.
Funny how the second time 'round it's not so bad. We're able to focus more on the precious stuff -- the snuggles, the (open-mouth) kisses, the little jokes he makes and funny faces, how he looks in his adorable footy jams. With Fiona, I was eager for her to grow up; now that she's a full-fledged human, I'm happy to slow things down, but she wants to pick up the pace. I know better with Rowan and I'm able to enjoy the ride a little more. How we love our babes.
