Verbal news: Rowan is really into facial features. Most recently, he's added the words "eye" and "teeth" to his repertoire.
The Easter Bunny came! For Fiona, a jewelry box with a wind-up dancing ballerina inside; for Rowan, a truck. Yes, we are feeding those gender stereotypes like gangbusters. Both kids received beany baby puppies (Sniffer and Tricks), and Fiona additionally scored a pair of sunglasses and a Reese's bunny. Delish. There were multiple egg hunts over the weekend, and we ended up enjoying Easter brunch with Lala and her progeny. Fiona had a hard time dealing with Easter's end. To paraphrase Boyz II Men, It's so hard to say goodbye (to Easter goodies). But all is not lost: For Xx week at school, Fiona is bringing in two photos that she took of her new jewelry boX. Spring has teased us a few times with exceptionally warm days followed by chilly ones but it finally feels like we're on the upswing to consistent mild weather. An enormous groundhog is prowling around the yard, and there have been several bunny sightings. If that doesn't say spring, I don't know what does. So out has come the hammock, and we have upgraded our sand table to a sand box. This is livin'. Big happenings on the dental front: Rowan has acquired not one but TWO new teeth in the past week! Top, just right of center (making an even 4 on top and 4 on bottom in front) and what appears to be a top left molar, bringing the grand total up to 9. Huzzah! Verbal news: Rowan is really into facial features. Most recently, he's added the words "eye" and "teeth" to his repertoire. Shortly after this photo was taken, I took Rowan into a very warm pool for his first swim class. He was nervous bordering petrified, but amazingly his nerves never led to tears or screaming. He clung to me and I did my best to smile calmly and reassure him that I would not let go of him and would not put him under the water and everything was fiiiiine. He enjoyed the buckets and the balls and really enjoyed splashing me. They teach the kids to climb out of the pool, and once Rowan was out there were a few moments where I wondered whether or not he would get back in. But he did, all of his own volition (I picked him up, of course, and eased him back into the water, but I never had to get out of the pool). By the end, he was much more comfortable. He let me hold him in different positions for "swimming" and back float, though during the latter his legs were awkwardly swinging in the air and his head was up so he could see around him. It was more like a ballet hold than a back float. I'm hoping that his ease will carry over to next week, but I have a feeling we'll have to warm up all over again. No matter. It was a successful first attempt.

Sounds like it's time for a visit to the northern cousins and their lovely heated pool. Well, it's still covered for the winter but eventually it will be nice and warm.

A tempting invitation! Could you install a teleporter between NJ and TO for us?
