We survived--and loved--Christmas! Days after Thanksgiving, we picked out our tree and the kids got to decorating. Brian screwed the tree into the stand and I put on the lights, but the kids did the rest. As has become tradition, we visited Deedee and Granddad et al prior to Christmas for Part I, and then on the 23rd, Grandma flew up. Aunt Colleen joined us on Christmas Eve. Unlike last year, Fiona was intent on going to bed on time in order to allow Santa ample time to do his thing. Rowan did his usual thing, which includes getting up multiple times to pee, drink water, and request more books. And then the big day arrived. Fiona got a new American Girl-type doll, Layla (she's a rock star with purple streaks in her hair), and accessories/clothes for her dolls. She also got a fashion designer set, some markers, and a Barbie RV. Rowan got some transformers, duplo, puzzles, puzzles, and more puzzles. And that's just a few highlights. We spent the Christmas--New Years week enjoying a pleasant mix of field trips and downtime. Rowan and Grandma played lots and lots (and lots) of Candyland. We visited the New York Botanical Garden train show (and subsequently joined the Garden), as well as Duke Farms and Hilltop Reservation where we introduced Aunt Colleen to the joys of geocaching. And now we're back into the swing of school/work/reality. No snow yet this season, but after a perplexingly mild December, January is starting to feel like winter.
