We got back home in time to pick up Grandma at the airport, and Aunt Colleen arrived on Christmas Eve. After I got a little vomiting and some serious sleeping out of my system, we were ready to celebrate!
Last year, we gave Fiona a few small things on Christmas morning. I'd recently bought her some irresistible clothes on clearance at Old Navy so I wrapped them just so Fiona would have lots of paper to rip -- figured that was the most thrilling part for a 2 year old. While she enjoyed it, eventually she lost interest and said, "No thank you," when I presented her with more gifts.
This year, Fiona was much more enthusiastic. She delivered gifts one by one to the right recipient and then said, "I open it for you!" and proceeded to rip. She received a doll house and a leotard with tights from Santa (as well as walkie-talkies from Deedee and Granddad, below), and Grandma gave her a Disney story anthology. Fiona was a bit put out that she didn't get to see Santa, but we assured her that he only comes when everyone's asleep.
We made sure that Rowan had gifts to open (spoons, food freezer trays, a carseat toy) but I doubt Fiona would have noticed if he had gone empty-handed (and of course he was oblivious to the whole Christmas thing).
Fiona made glittery cards for everyone, but the greatest gift of all was that she slept until 7:30 Christmas morning. Grandma predicts that she'll be up at 3 am next year.
I took this photo (below) because I thought it was funny that she'd evicted the animals from their little nest and put princesses in their place. (So much for the doll house!) But then I realized it's a metaphor for her interests: pink and purple, ballet, and beautiful ladies trump stuffed animals these days. Loud and clear.
