Today was the first day of performing arts camp. The theme for the week: "Under the Sea." From what I gleaned, they made fish decorations, danced, and sang. That's a jam-packed three hours! Fiona's friend Amelie is in her group, so that might be good. Again, Fiona is begrudgingly attending, but I am *hoping* with all my heart that she enjoys this one. It should be totally up her alley, but social anxiety could get the better of her. We'll reevaluate at the end of the week.
Fiona farm-camped last week. The kids transplanted small plants, harassed chickens and fondled chicks, listened to a horse named Rocky cough (which, according to Fiona, sounded like a human coughing -- apparently Rocky had a cold), prepared snacks for their own consumption, and one day they even tie-dyed. They were outside nonstop every morning getting dirty and sweaty. Did Fiona like it? Meh. Yes and no. I gather that the activities were fun, but she wanted to have a special friend nearby to hold her hand, and the two campers she knew were busy doing their own thing. Fiona enjoyed her first hip hop (video here) and creation station classes last week. I'm sure it helps that she has been going to the Y for years, but she doesn't have the same social concerns there. (This all points to it being a good thing that we're waiting a year for Kindergarten, doesn't it.) Rowan's ears are dry! We went for a second follow-up today. I guess two weeks of Benadryl (plus Zyrtec) clinched it. The consequence of having full hearing ability? Rowan has learned the word "mine" and knows how to use it. He also says, "Uh en" (the end) when we close a book. And thanks to our current ant infestation (argh), Rowan has lots of specimens to point to and say, "Ahn" (ant). In gross motor news, Rowan is descending stairs like a champ. Sure, we have shiny fingerprints on the walls, but my back is happy and so is the boy. Video here.
